PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for connecting ringlike mantels capable of obtaining welded connection between mantels high in reliability. SOLUTION: This method for connecting ringlike mantels in which one side welding is performed has the following stage: (1) either one side of a first or second ringlike mantel 20 or 15 is previously fitted with a first backing strip 13; (2) the fit-up between the joint edge parts 24 and 25 of the first or second ringlike mantel 20 or 15 is performed: (3) second backing strips 14 plurally divided in advance are abutted on the joint edge parts 24 and 25 of the first or second ringlike mantel 20 or 15 on the other side in a state of being confronted with the first backing strip 13, and they are fixed; (4) the first and second backing strips 13 and 14 are flame scarfed from the outside of a furnace to form a groove part 30; and (5) the groove part 30 is welded from the outside of the furnace, and the first and second ringlike mantels 20 and 15 are firmly connected.
