Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily transmit and receive an electronic mail in the same operation method without being affected by the type of terminal equipment used at a user's side. SOLUTION: A mail server 1 is provided with the function of a WWW server 6 for returning held information to a browser according to an access from the browser so that an electronic mail can be transmitted through the browser, and that the received electronic mail can be converted into a language displayable by the browser and displayed in this electronic mail system. This system is provided with a means for converting the received electronic mail into an item such as a subject list page and a designated received mail display page at the time of displaying the electronic mail at a browser and for operating numbering processing for each item, and a means for analyzing destination information, subject information, and text information for each user at the time of at least transmitting the electronic mail and for preserving the destination information, subject information, and text information when new information is present.
