Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent display having a simple and thin structure. SOLUTION: A vacuum-sealed receptacle 100 comprises first and second insulating substrates 101 and 102. On the inside of the first insulating substrate 101 are sequentially deposited an anode electrode 104 and phosphor layer 203, while on the inside of the second substrate 102 are sequentially deposited a cathode electrode 201 and field emission layer 202. The insulation substrates 101 and 102 respectively have spacer members 105 and 204 respectively formed on their insides so as to separate the substrates 101 and 102 with a prescribed gap. The anode electrode 104 and cathode electrode 201 are selectively driven to various visual information.
