Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition for a hard coat which can form a transparent cured coating film having high resistances to abrasion and scratch, a simple and convenient process for producing the same, and a hard coat article having a cured coating film having the above characteristics. SOLUTION: The coating composition for a hard coat essentially contains an active energy ray-curable acrylic resin, a volatile organic acid, and fine alumina particles. The process for producing the coating composition comprises mixing an active energy ray-curable acrylic resin with a volatile organic acid and fine alumina particles to disperse the particles by the deflocculating action of the acid. The hard coat article has a cured hard coat film formed on the surface thereof by irradiating the coating composition with an active energy ray.
