Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measures the moving speed easily even of an object made of a transparent material simultaneously with the moving direction. SOLUTION: The apparatus for measuring the moving speed of an object W previously provided with measurement marks M of specified shape at a specified interval along the moving direction comprises a line sensor camera 10 receiving the image of the measurement marks M picked up at a constant pulse interval during movement of the object, means for operating the moving speed of the object from the relation between the mark interval on an input image thus obtained and the actual mark interval on the object, and an image processor 12 having the function of means for determining the moving direction of the object from the shape of the mark on the input image.
