Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a copolymer excellent in biocompatibility, especially having thermoformability and/or a tensile strength after the forming to a certain extent and, if necessary, having hydrophilicity, water absorbency or the like, and further to provide a method for producing the copolymer, a material for medical use and a material for ophthalmology. SOLUTION: This copolymer has constituent units of formula (1) to (4) [R1, R2 and R3 are each divalent organic group; R4 IS H or CH3; R5, R6 and R7 are each H, a 1-6C hydrocarbon or a hydroxyhydrocarbon; m is 0 or 1; n is 2-4; X is a divalent organic group; Y is a 1-6C alkyleneoxy group; and Z is H or a group of the formula (R8 is a 1-10C alkyl group or a 1-10C hydroxyalkyl group)], and further has the constituent unit of formula (3) wherein the R3 is a difunctional group containing a polysiloxanyl group. The method for producing the copolymer, the material for the medical use and the material for the ophthalmology are also provided.
