Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic still camera capable of photographing the momentary movement of a subject. SOLUTION: An electronic still camera for accumulating electric charges with an electric charge accumulation type image pickup element 1 in proportion to the luminance distribution of a subject, reading out the accumulated charges from the element 1 as picture data, temporarily storing the picture data in a storage means 6, compression the picture data and recording the compressed data in a recording medium 7 is provided with a very high speed continuous photographing mode for continuously photographing a plurality of frames at a high speed to repeatedly execute charge accumulation by the element 1 and the reading of picture data from the element 1 and compress the picture data of a preceding frame during the charge accumulation period of a succeeding frame. Since so-called pipeline processing for executing the image compression of a preceding frame during the charge accumulation period of the succeeding frame in the photographing operation of all frames excluding the first and final frames can be executed, photographing time can be shortened and very high speed continuous photographing capable of catching the momentary movement of a subject can be executed. In addition, the storage capacity of a storage means can be reduced by image compression. |
