Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new phenylacetylene compound having a large refractive index anisotropy, readily mixable with other liquid crystals and more advantageous to stability to light and a compound useful for producing the phenylacetylene compound, to provide a method for producing the phenylacetylene compound and to obtain both a liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal element using the phenylacetylene compound. SOLUTION: This phenylacetylene compound is represented by the formula (1) (A1 to A12 denote each H, F or the like; one thereof denotes an F-substituted alkyl group or an F-substituted alkoxy group; and R1 and R2 denote each H, F, CN, SF5 or the like). The compound useful as an intermediate thereof is obtained. The method of producing the phenylacetylene compound is obtained and a liquid crystal composition comprises the phenylacetylene compound. The liquid crystal element uses the liquid crystal composition. |
