Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material excellent in thermal response and whiteness. SOLUTION: In a thermal recording material containing an electron donative dye precursor which is usually colorless or pale colored and an electron acceptive compound which reacts with the precursor by heating and colors it, 4-hydroxy-4'-isopropoxydiphenyl sulfone as the electron acceptive compound is wet-crushed with sulfone-modified polyvinyl alcohol and partially saponified polyvinyl alcohol, and the mixture is added into a thermal recording layer.
