Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for inspecting pipings whereby the piping can be inspected over a wide range in real time. SOLUTION: The piping-inspecting apparatus has a primary storage container 11 and a secondary storage container 12 connected in series. An inlet side of the primary storage container 11 is connected to a lateral piping 1, and an outlet side of the secondary storage container 12 is connected to a drain pipe 8. A first control valve 13, a second control valve 14 and a third control valve 15 are set respectively for opening and shutting a branch flow of water from the lateral piping 1 to the primary storage container 11, for opening and shutting an inflow of water from the primary storage container 11 to the secondary storage container 12, and for opening and closing to drain water from the secondary storage container 12 to the drain pipe 8. The secondary storage container 12 is filled with the water stored in the primary storage container 11, thereby closing the second control valve 14. It is waited until the water stored in the secondary storage container 12 is brought to a stationary state. Thereafter, a foreign matter included in the water stored in the secondary storage container 12 is detected by a two-dimensional ultrasonic array sensor.
