Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance heat insulating performance and to avoid the increase of weight and cost due to multiplying by charging a gas having a lower heat conductivity and a larger molecular weight than air into a hermetically sealed air layer in such a way that convection is hardly caused even if the hermetically sealed air layer is made thicker. SOLUTION: A spacer 3 having a groove-shaped opening 3A for communication filled with a hygroscopic material 5 such as silica gel and a sealing material 6 such as a butyl resin are disposed between the peripheral edge parts of two single glass plates 2 to form a hermetically sealed air layer 4. In this sealed double-glazed unit 7, a gas such as Kr or Xe is charged into the hermetically sealed air layer 4. Preferably the heat conductivity of the gas is 1/2.77-1/4.6 of that of air, the molecular weight of the gas is 2.8-4.5 times that of air, the specific heat of the gas is 1/4-1/6 of that of air and the molecular weight of the gas is 2-3 times that of steam. Convection is hardly caused in the hermetically sealed air layer 4, heat transfer is suppressed, the gas is less liable to escape into the air and the heat insulating performance of the sealed double-glazed unit 7 is considerably enhanced. |
