Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a singlet oxygen detector for confirming the generation of singlet oxygen and a photodynamical treatment apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: A singlet oxygen detector is equipped with an irradiation means 2 for irradiating an object 1 with exciting light, a light detection means 3 for detecting the light generated when singlet oxygen generated by an excited photosensitizer is deactivated to become triplet oxygen of a normal state and an extraction means 8 for extracting the output of the light detection means during a predetermined detection period containing at least a part of a second light emitting period becoming predominant in the emission of light when singlet oxygen is deactivated to become triplet oxygen of a normal state. By this detector, the generation of singlet oxygen obscure heretofore can be certainly detected. A photodynamical treatment apparatus is equipped with this singlet oxygen detector in addition to a conventional photodynamical treatment apparatus and medical treatment can be performed by this apparatus while confirming the minimal generation of singlet oxygen necessary for medical treatment.
