Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cultivate protozoa useful for a water treatment process, research and development of medicaments and the like, and to obtain biologically homogeneous, high purity protozoa by infecting animal culture cells with cyst or oocyst of protozoa and by propagating the protozoa in the culture cells. SOLUTION: Protozoa are cultivated by infecting animal culture cells such as a mouse-derived BALB/3T33 cell line with cyst or oocyst of protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and by propagating the protozoa in the culture cells. In this method, the cyst or oocyst of protozoa is extracted and recovered from the culture supernatant of the cultured product by one method selected from the group consisting of (flotation) centrifugation, density gradient centrifugation, membrane separation, filtration, gel filtration and affinity chromatography or a combinational method consisting of at least two selected from the above group.
