Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer in which a carbide is uniformly dispersed without polluting the working environment by subjecting a polymer to a discharge treatment between high-voltage electrodes. SOLUTION: The carbide-containing polymer in which 0.01-10 pts.wt. carbide is dispersed in 100 pts.wt. polymer is obtained by subjecting a molten-state or solid-state polymer to a discharge treatment between needle-like or cone-like high-voltage electrodes 0-20 cm distant from each other at an applied voltage of 1-200 kV while melt-kneading the polymer under a pressure of an injected gas such as air. It is also possible that a polymer having a carbide content of at least 10 pts.wt. is formed, and this is used as a masterbatch to be melt- kneaded with a fresh polymer. The carbide-containing polymer may additionally contain a phenolic antioxidant, a hindered amine stabilizer, an ultraviolet absorber such as 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone, a nonionic antistatic agent, a phosphate flame retardant, etc. The polymer used is exemplified by a polyethylene, a polyimide, or a phenolic resin.
