Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chlorine compound removing agent capable of continuously and efficiently removing inorganic chlorine compound such as hydrogen chloride and organic chlorine compound flowing into treated naphtha in a process for treating heavy naphtha, etc., using a catalyst activated with an organic chlorine compound, etc., or removing inorganic chlorine compound and organic chlorine compound derived from crude oil over a long period and provide the removing method. SOLUTION: This agent for removing chlorine compound is composed mainly of zinc oxide and an alkaline earth metal silicate. The concentration of zinc oxide is 10-90 wt.% and that of alkaline earth metal silicate is 10-90 wt.%. There is no formation of polymer such as green oil on the surface by the use of the chlorine compound removing agent and, accordingly, inorganic and organic chlorine compounds can be removed continuously over a long period.
