Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition having improved road-gripping properties, abrasion resistance, flexural resistance and cut resistance, and useful for a tread or the like for a tire by compounding each specific amount of a dienic rubber component, a carbon black and a specific alicyclic hydrocarbon resin. SOLUTION: This rubber composition is obtained by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. dienic rubber component (e.g. styrene-butadiene rubber), (B) 20-100 pts.wt. carbon black and (C) 5-15 pts.wt. alicyclic hydrocarbon resin containing an unsaturated group (e.g. a compound of the formula). The component C preferably has 360-800 number average molecular weight (Mn), 700-1,600 weight average molecular weight (Mw), 1.8-2.2 Mn/Mw, and 93-109 deg.C softening point. The component B preferably has 40-150 m2/g specific surface are measured by nitrogen adsorption, and 90-140 ml/100 g oil absorption.
