Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful in a resin composition which is quickly curable with ultraviolet rays, capable of producing cured products with high refractive index and flexibility, and intended for lens such as Fresnel lens used in projection television sets or the like. SOLUTION: This compound is a compound of the formula (R is H or methyl), e.g. 9-fluorenylmethyl acrylate. The compound of the formula is obtained by reacting (A) 9-fluorenylmethanol with (B) (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of (C) an esterification catalyst such as sulfuric acid and (D) a polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone, pref. in the presence of a solvent such as toluene, pref. at 70-150 deg.C. The molar ratio of the component B to be used to the component A is pref. 1.05-2, and that of the component C to the component B is pref. 0.01-0.06. The second objective resin composition obtained using this compound is excellent in mold releasability, form reproducibility and restorability.
