Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read and print out an image by providing a simple image reader function to an image forming device without the need for using an exclusive image reader. SOLUTION: This image forming device 1 uses a laser oscillator 2 to optically write a static latent image onto a photoreceptor 4 and the image is formed by developing this static latent image by toner. The laser oscillator 2 can be used for a light source for read scanning of an original 5. In this case, a 1st light receiving element 6 receives reflected light in the original 5 receiving the light emitted from the laser oscillator 2 for the read scanning. A 2nd light receiving element 7 receives the light emitted from the laser oscillator 2 to detect a scanned position in a sub-scanning direction and the scanned position in the main scanning direction is detected by an elapsed time after the 2nd light receiving element 7 receives a laser beam.
