Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth pressure reducing method ensuring the effect of reducing earth pressure on an embedded structure such as a culvert and allowing easy construction work. SOLUTION: A culvert 1 is constructed on foundation soil BG and side banking soil portions GR, GL appropriately higher than the top plate 1a of the culvert 1 are built on both sides of the culvert 1. A non-consolidated earth layer GC which either has a banking thickness smaller than the depth of a valley or is hardly consolidated is formed on the top plate 1a. A steel plate 2 is laid across the upper surfaces of the side banking soil portions GR, GL to cover the valley immediately above the culvert 1 from its top. An appropriate gap δ is thereby formed between the steel plate 2 and the non-consolidated earth layer GC. Next, an upper banking soil GU is built on the tops of the side banking soil portions GR, GL and the steel plate 2. The vertical earth pressure of the upper banking soil GU on the culvert 1 is insulated by the steel plate 2 and the gap 3. |
