Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability and the friction resistance of magnetic ink character recognition(MICR) characters printed on a check or a bill by providing a flattening means for making the surface roughness of a printed toner image for MICR small. SOLUTION: Carrying rollers 17 to 20 carry paper P on which the MICR toner image is fixed to a pressure processing mechanism 21. The mechanism 21 functioning as the surface processing device is provided with a pressure part functioning as the flattening means provided with a pressure roller 22 and a backup roller 23. In the mechanism 21, the part of an MICR character string on the paper P on which the MICR toner image is printed is pressured and compressed by the cooperation of the roller 22 with the roller 23, so that the paper P is ejected in a state where the part of the MICR character string on the paper P where the MICR toner image is formed is recessed. Thus, the surface roughness of the printed MICR toner image is made small.
