Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reflection type liquid crystal display device having high reflectance that can obtain a display with good contrast and can realize a good achromatic color display, by applying a polarizing plate on only one face of a liquid crystal material layer and disposing a specified liquid crystal cell and an optical anisotropic material. SOLUTION: The twist angle θ1 of liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal material layer in a liquid crystal cell 3 from the polarizing plate 1 side to the reflector 4 side, the twist angle θ2 of the slow phase axis of an optical anisotropic material 2 from the polarizing plate 1 side to the reflector plate 3 side, the twist angle θ3 between the axes on the faces of the optical anisotropic material 2 and the liquid crystal material layer from the polarizing plate 1 side to the reflector plate 4 side, and the angle θ4 between the absorption axis 11 of the polarizing plate 1 and the slow phase axis of the optical anisortopic material 2 on the face facing the polarizing plate 1 size satisfy all of the relation of θ1=+40 deg. to +70 deg., θ2=-20 deg. to -50 deg., θ1+θ2=+11 deg. to +35 deg., θ3=+70 deg. to +110 deg., θ4=-15 deg. to +25 deg. or +75 deg. to +115 deg.. |
