Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the light amount irregularity of an LED chip without applying a correction for offsetting the concentration irregularity to the image data themselves. SOLUTION: In an LED array head with a plurality of LED chips comprising a plurality of light emitting elements arranged in a row, an element lighting time according to the position of the light emitting element of the LED chip is preset in an RAM 13 so that the LEDs as the light emitting elements are lit by the element lighting time according to the position of the light emitting element read out from the RAM 13 by I signal generating circuits 14-27 at the time of lighting the light emitting elements according to print information. It is preferable that the element lighting time is set at a time n times (n=1, 2, 3,...) as much as the LED drive or with a time fraction less than one cycle, or the element lighting time is set with with a tide n times as much as the LED drive and a time fraction of a substantially 2-n cycles. The light amount irregularity is corrected by stepwise minute adjustment of a light emission duty with respect to the light emitting elements at both end parts of the LED chips.
