Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state image pickup device and a camera system employing it, in which bias fluctuation suppressing effect can be enhanced for substrate current by increasing the current amplification factor hFE of the final stage emitter follower in a substrate bias circuit. SOLUTION: In the substrate bias circuit 23 of a CCD image pickup device 10, an emitter follower part 232 or suppressing fluctuation of substrate bias voltage Vsub with respect to a substrate current has a two stage structure of a first stage emitter follower transistor Q1 comprising a vertical transistor for increasing the current amplification factor hFE, and a second stage emitter follower transistor Q2 comprising a lateral transistor for increasing the p-n junction reverse breakdown strength in order to enhance total current amplification factor hFE.
