Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an MASL1 gene which has high homology to a nucleic acid coding for a polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, has homology to ALS, is involved in proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis of cells, and can be used for diagnosis and treatment of carcinoma and so on. SOLUTION: This new MASL1 gene contains a nucleotide selected from a polynucleotide coding for a polypeptide containing the amino acid sequence shown by formula I, a polynucleotide having homology to the polynucleotide shown by formula II at 95% or higher, or polynucleotides complementary to these nucleotides, and also has a homology to ALS, plays important roles in proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis of cells, and can be used for elucidation of pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases which are involved in differentiation of cells such as carcinoma. This gene is obtained by preparing a cDNA library derived from various kinds of cells, tissues, and so on, followed by screening the obtained library using an appropriate probe or antibody specific to the gene. |
