Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and efficiently clean a color comparison cell even when incorporated in an automatic continuous measuring apparatus, by cleaning the color comparison cell with a cleaning solution including a polyoxyalkyleneoxide addition nonionic surfactant of a predetermined HLB value. SOLUTION: An effective component of a cleaning solution is a polyoxyalkyleneoxide addition nonionic surfactant poly activator of an HLB value of 12-18. The HLB value is preferably 13-16, a range of which is determined from a view point of a cleaning effect. If the value is out of the range, the effect is worsened. The poly activator can be obtained by adding alkylene oxide to alcohols or phenols. The cleaning method is achieved simply by putting and leaving the cleaning solution into the color comparison cell. A time while the cleaning solution is put and kept in the cell is optical and generally 10 seconds or longer. There is no inconvenience even if the solution is left for a long time. In general, the solution is preferably held in the color comparison cell within a range where the cell can be cleaned in a sequence with a frequency for automatically measuring a concentration of the anionic polymer being taken into account.
