Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound oxidizable to form a benzophenone derivative useful as an intermediate for sensitizer, heat-sensitive dye, etc., and an intermediate for pigment compound. SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula I (R1 to R4 are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, a halogen or the like; R5 is H, an alkyl, an aryl or the like; R6 to R9 are each H, a halogen or cyano), e.g. 4-bis(p- dimethylaminophenyl)methoxy-2,3,5,6-tetrachlorophenol. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting bis(diaminophenyl)methane of formula II with a benzoquinone compound of formula III. A heat-sensitive dye, a leuco compound, etc., can be produced in high purity and yield by oxidizing the obtained compound to a benzophenone derivative and condensing the derivative with m-dimethylaminobenzoic acid. |
