Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small, lightweight and an inexpensive portable communication unit of high reliability which can protect a printed board and the electronic parts from the impacts, the external forces, etc., without using a highly rigid material to a casing of the communication unit. SOLUTION: This communication unit consists of an upper case 7 and a lower case 8 which are unified together in addition to at least a key operating part 2, a display part 3, a speech sending part 5 and a speech receiving part 6 which are provided on the surface of the case 7. A hollow part formed between both cases 7 and 8 contains a printed board 10 of many electronic parts including at least an LCD 13, a microphone 14, a speaker 15, an LSI 16, etc. When the board 10 is fixed between the cases 7 and 8, the ribs 11 which are provided on one or both of cases 7 and 8 are pierced through the holes 12 drilled through the board 10 and the board 10 is held fixedly between both cases 7 and 8.
