Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic voltage regulator for an AC generator which is small-sized and is stable in operation. SOLUTION: This regulator is provided with a switch 2 for the control of an exciting current, consisting of a MOSFET 205, between a rectifying circuit 2B for rectifying the output of an excitation coil 1B and a field coil 1C. The circuit between output terminals K and A of a shunt-type regulator IC206 is connected in parallel with the circuit between the gate and the source of the MOSFET 205. One end of a resistor R7 for a drive power source is connected to the output terminal on positive electrode side of the rectifying circuit 2B, and a Zener diode ZD1 is connected between the other end of this resistor R7 and the source of the MOSFET 205. The voltage across the Zener diode ZD1 is applied between the gate and the cathode of the MOSFET. This regulator turns on or turns off the MOSFET by changing the output voltage of the regulator IC, according to the magnitude relation between a detected output V0, corresponding to the output voltage of the generator and the reference voltage.
