Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power plant for a vehicle, with which can start engine can by a small-output motor without spoiling the starting acceleration of the motor, with which a motor running operation can be performed without the drag loss of the engine, with which the engine can be started during the stop of the motor, and which can generate electric power through the use of the engine. SOLUTION: In this power plant for a vehicle, a three-element two degrees of freedom type planet gear mechanism is adopted as a two-stage transmission mechanism 2, which is installed between the output shaft 1a of an engine 1 and the input shaft 3 of a transmission 2. The input shaft 3 of the transmission 2 is connected to a carrier 19. A motor/generator 16 is connected to a sun gear 17. A two-way clutch 27 is installed at a ring gear 18. A clutch 29 which connects the carrier 19 to the ring gear 18 is installed. In addition, the engine 1 and the carrier 9 are connected via a clutch 25. In addition, the engine 1 and the ring gear 18 are connected via clutch gear 30 and thereby various modes can be realized.
