Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize kick operation by performing the kick operation of the light beam of an optical head while the relative movement in the direction of a track between an optical information storage medium and an optical head is not made. SOLUTION: Immediately after a scanning start command is issued, a kick operation command is issued. A kick voltage VA is set to a D/A converter 204. A selection switch 205 is switched to an X terminal, and a beam spot beings to be driven in a direction that orthogonally crosses the scanning direction of a tracking track for performing acceleration motion. When a tracking control voltage At exceeds a level VH and then becomes lower than the level VH, a kick voltage is set to 0 and further a point where the level of the At signal becomes -VL is detected and the kick voltage is set to -VD for decelerating. Then, a point where the At signal reaches 0 is detected, the selection switch 205 is switched to a W terminal, and a beam spot is shifted from a kick operation state to a tracking servo state, thus completing kick operation.
