Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alkylhalosilane useful in an organic silane industry in improved selectivity and in a high yield by reacting an alkyl halide with a catalyst aggregate containing powder silicon and a copper catalyst in the presence of an organic phosphine at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: This method for producing an alkylhalosilane (for example, dimethyldichlorosilane) comprises directly reacting (A) an alkyl halide (for example, methyl chloride) with (B) a catalyst aggregate containing powder silicon and a copper catalyst at a temperature of about 250-350 deg.C. Therein, an organic phosphine such as trimethylphosphine, triethylphosphine or triphenylphosphine is used for the reaction in an amount effective for the direct reaction. Thereby, the objective alkylhalosilane such as a dimethyldihalosilane important in an organic silane industry is produced in high productivity and in improved selectivity.
