Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water impervious device for the tail seal of a shield machine capable of simply preventing water leakage surely by operation only in the shield machine. SOLUTION: In the water impervious device for the tail seal of the shield machine, a cut-off brush mounting member 8 having the same diameter as a segment 5 is fixed at the front end of the segment 5, a cut-off brush 10 is mounted on the inside of the mounting member 8, a water-impervious segment 7 having a diameter smaller than the segment 5 is set up at the front end of the above-mentioned segment 5, and pushing means 12, 13 pushing the front end section of the above-mentioned cut-off brush 10 against the outside in the radial direction are fitted to the water-impervious segment 7 in the water- impervious device at a time when the tail seals 2, 3 attached on the inside of the external cylinder 1 of the shield machine are inspected and exchanged during excavation. The above-mentioned cut-off brush 10 is manufactured by bundling wires, caulking one end sections by a caulking material and filling caulked root sections with a urethane material not formed having high fluidity.
