PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide simple methods suitable for commercial production of highly pure cis-2-aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid and cis-2- benzamidocyclohexanecarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing cis-2-aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid comprises reacting anhydrous cis-2-cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid with ammonia in an aqueous solution of ammonia to produce cis-2- carbamoylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid, and further reacting this product with a hypochlorite or hypobromite in an aqueous alkaline solution, wherein the aqueous solution of ammonium salt of cis-2-carbamoylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid is made strongly acidic with a mineral acid, and the acid separated out is collected and recovered by solid/liquid separation. This method for producing cis-2-benzamidocyclohexanecarboxylic acid comprises reacting cis-2- aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid as the product of the above method with benzoyl chloride in an aqueous alkaline solution.
