Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting an obstacle in an underground propulsion method that can reduce time for detecting a buried obstacle. SOLUTION: A device for detecting an obstacle in an underground propulsion method is provided with a transmission antenna 22 that transmits an electromagnetic wave toward an object 16 being hidden under the ground, a reception antenna 24 that receives the electromagnetic wave being reflected from the object 16 being hidden under the ground, a sampler 38 that samples an output signal from the reception antenna 24, an image signal-processing means 28 that processes an image information signal being sampled by the sampler 38 for obtaining the position information signal of the object being hidden, and a display means 60 that displays the contents of the position information signal from the image signal-processing means 28. The transmission antenna 22, the reception antenna 24, the sampler 38, and the image signal-processing means 28 are provided in a propulsion body 4 for propelling in soil, and the display means 60 is provided at the side of an operator.
