Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device and method for a paper sheet printer, in which the inclination of sheets and a delay in the timing of making the sheets flow are so small that the sheets can be delivered stably to prevent paper feeding errors to achieve even higher performance and to increase registering accuracy for enhanced print quality. SOLUTION: In the paper feeding device 1 of this paper sheet printer, first and second suction mechanisms 5, 6 are placed above a bundle of sheets and a third suction mechanism 7 located downstream of the first and second suction mechanisms 5, 6 and having plural pairs of third suction openings 17 on a conveyor 15 is provided. The sheets 2 are sucked by the first suction mechanism 5 and separated one from another, and the second suction mechanism 6 sucks and accelerates the sheets 2 towards the downstream side. The sheets 2 accelerated are received by the third suction opening 17 of the third suction mechanism 7 and conveyed to an entrance part on a feeder board 9 while being sucked and held.
