Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the hydration reactivity and the acidic gas absorption by mixing specific amounts of calcite powder and an inorganic powder having a specific average particle size and grinding them. SOLUTION: The objective calcite fine powder comprises 100 pts.wt. of powdery calcite and 1-10 pts.wt. of an inorganic powder having an average particle size of m<=1 μm. As the inorganic powder, silica fume is particularly suitable. The calcite powder as a raw material preferably has an average particle size of 10-5,000 μm from the view points of their grinding and activation effect. On the grinding, an auxiliary grinding agent and a variety of functional additive may be admixed, particularly the addition of a grinding aid such as diethylene glycol, triethanolamine or the like increases more the activation effect in an amount of 0.05-5 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the calcite powder. The resultant calcite fine powder is added in an amount of 5-150 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the cement to give an excellent hydraulic material.
