Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bulky yarn with good touch, excellent in hot water resistance and stainproofness, and useful for fabrics, etc., by subjecting an ethylene- vinyl alcohol-based copolymer fiber-contg. filament yarn to bulk processing followed by crosslinking treatment under specified conditions. SOLUTION: This bulky yarn is obtained by the following steps: a filament yarn comprising a fiber with an ethylene-vinyl alcohol-based copolymer as one component is subjected to bulk processing, and either concurrently or separately, to heat treatment under such temperature conditions as to neither melt nor soften the copolymer and to satisfy density D (g/cm3) as shown by formula I (25<=E<=70), and the resulting bulky yarn is subjected to acetal crosslinking treatment at 100-140 deg.C in an aqueous solution at pH 1.0-5.0 containing one or more kinds of compound of formula II (R1 to R4 are each an alkyl; R1 and R2, and R3 and R4 are each an alkylene forming a ring; R5 is H or an alkyl; (n) is 2-10). This bulky yarn comprises the resulting crosslinked fiber <=215 deg.C in melting point satisfying formula III [α is a melting point rise increment ( deg.C) from the melting point Tm of the copolymer before subjected to acetal crosslinking determined by formula IV; R is the proportion of crosslinked acetal linkages].
