Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coated carrier for developing an electrostatic latent image, wherein the carrier is capable of suppressing the scattering of a toner or the sticking of the carrier to a photoreceptor by maintaining a sharp electric charge distribution within the toner in a high temp. and high humidity environment and capable of stably forming a good image free from fog and missing parts, to obtain an electrostatic latent image developer using the toner and to provide an image forming method. SOLUTION: The coated carrier has a coating film on core particles of a magnetic material. The core particles are made from lithium ferrite having >5 μm grain diameter. The ratio of the specific surface area S1 of the core particles measured by the air permeation method to the specific surface area S2 of the core particles assumed to be spherical satisfies 1.0<=S1/S2<=1.7. The coating film contains fine resin particles and fine metal oxide particles. The specific surface area S2 is calculated by the equation S2=6,000/ρd, where ρis the specific gravity and (d) is the average particle diameter of the core particles.
