Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous lithium ion battery with high safety, low cost, and capable of stably operating in a neutral aqueous solution. SOLUTION: A battery is constituted with a positive electrode 1 made of a material capable of inserting and releasing lithium ions, a negative electrode 3 made of a compound represented by chemical formula, LixV3Oy (x=1-1.2, y=7.9-8.2), and an aqueous electrolyte 5 containing lithium ions. The aqueous electrolyte 5 is preferable to have pH 6 or higher. The positive electrode 1 is preferable to be made of a composite oxide of lithium with at least one element selected from the group comprising cobalt, nickel, manganese, vanadium, and niobium.
