Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extreme-pressure additive which improves water resistant stability, oxidation inhibition, high synchromesh durability performance and gear protection by a lubricating oil in a manual transmission gear box. SOLUTION: An extreme-pressure additive comprises (a) 30-70% alkali metal borate, preferably 40-66% potassium triborate; (b) 10-30% organic polysulfide, preferably 12-25% di-tert-butyl trisulfide; (c) 1-20% alkylsuccinate ester of a polyol, preferably 5-15% reaction product of pentaerythritol with a polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride; and (d) 0.5-20% perbasic alkyl or alkenyl salicylate sulfide, preferably 5-10% perbasic mixture of an alkyl salicylate sulfide and an alkyl phenolate sulfide. This extreme-pressure additive may further contains a fatty acid ester of a polyol, an alkyl-substituted phenyl phosphate, at least one metal deactivator and an anti-foaming agent. |
