Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly suppress the fluctuation of ignition timing by controlling a combustible air-fuel mixture obtained by mixing 2-step igniting fuel with 1-step igniting fuel by use of the change of engine speed of a compression ignition type internal combustion engine and the temperature change of the air-fuel mixture within a combustion chamber. SOLUTION: A 2-step igniting fuel using normal heptane having a condition for hardly shortening the self-ignition delay time to the temperature rise by compression within a combustion chamber is present is mixed with a 2-step igniting fuel using toluene having such a characteristic or almost ignorable of it to provide a combustible air-fuel mixture. The combustible air-fuel mixture is controlled by use of the change of the actual compression time by the change of engine speed of a compression ignition type internal combustion engine and the temperature change of the air-fuel mixture within the combustion chamber. Namely, toluene is mixed with normal heptane in a ratio of 85 vol.% to 15 vol.% to cause the ignition at a compression top dead center in a substantially constant equivalent ratio to the change of the engine speed.
