Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent salt water corrosion resistance by preparing a brass material contg. a specified amt. of Sn and having a crystal structure in which the average crystal grain size of the α phase is controlled to the one equal to or below specified value. SOLUTION: A brass material (including both rod material and tube material) in which the content of Sn is 0.5 to 7 wt.%, and having a crystal structure in which the average crystal grain size of the α phase is <=20 μm is prepd. Moreover, even in the case of a brass material having a crystal structure in which the area ratio of the β phase is 3 to 30%, and the concn. of Sn in the βphase is >=1.5 wt.%, and, furthermore, even in the case of a brass material having a crystal structure in which the area ratio of the γphase is 3 to 30%, and the concn. of Sn in the γ phase is 8 wt.%, characteristics excellent in salt water corrosion resistance are also exhibited. This brass material can suitably be used in the part in contact with the air in a brass product set to the outdoors (such as parts for an air conditioner) and in the part in contact with salt water in use in a brass product (such as piping for salt water). |
