Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a uricosuric agent useful for the treatment of gout and other hyperuricacidemia by including a specific compound having uricosuric action as an active component. SOLUTION: The objective agent contains a compound having uricosuric action and expressed by formula I (A is O or the like; B is O or the like; R1 is H or the like; R2 is a lower alkyl or the like; R3 is H or the like; R4 is nitro or the like) or its pharmacologically permissible salt (e.g. 4'-methyl-1,1'- biphenyl-2-carbonitrile) as an active component. The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting a compound of formula II (e.g. 2- bromobenzonitrile) with a compound of formula III (B is baron) (e.g. 4- methylbenzeneboronic acid) in the presence of a catalyst such as tetrakistriphenylphosphinepalladium chloride and a base such as potassium carbonate in a solvent such as toluene at room temperature or under heating. The daily administration rate of the compound of formula I for adult is preferably 5-200 mg.
