Summary:Accelerometer of high sensitivity, essentially consisting of a harmonic oscillator whose displacement, following the action of an external force, is measured and taken as an indicator of the resulting accelerations. The determination of the displacements of the mass is done by a capacitor bridge, polarised via an alternating voltage transformer, typically at frequency of 10 to 100 kilohertz. A displacement of the mass causes the capacitive bridge to become unbalanced and the signal, in the form of a modulation of the polarisation voltage, is picked off and sent to a preamplifier, after which it is demodulated by a sensitive detector, then transformed from analog into digital by a converter, and then acquired. As regards the prior art, it is simple to use and of limited cost. It finds application in the field of natural gas exploration, and the field of geophysics in general, with possibilities of use in gradiometric configuration.
