Summary:PURPOSE: To reduce the degree of double imaging of a head-up display system by projecting images onto nonparallel windshield glass wherein glass plies with inner and outer major surfaces each having a tapered thickness from one edge to the other edge are fixedly laminated using a sheet of thermoplastic interlayer material. CONSTITUTION: One or both of the glass plies 232, 234 of the windshield glass of an automobile is provided with a taper, and when an assembly 230 is laminated to form a unitary structure using a non-stretched interlayer 236, opposing surfaces 234, 236 of the windshield glass 230 are non-parallel and are oriented relative to each other so as to eliminate double imaging. It is further contemplated that one or more tapered interlayers may be used in combination with one or more tapered glass plies so that the final laminated assembly forms a required windshield glass construction having the configuration required to reduce double imaging.
