Summary:A diamond dressing tool is automatically controlled during the sharpening and profiled of a grinding wheel or abrasive burr (4) by continuously monitoring its working surface. The pulse transmitters (I,II) are triggered by their respective wheel mounted discs (1,2) to produce wheel sector signals and a revolution count by inductive, capacitive or photoelectric coupling. Transmitter (III) and sensing element (3) are used as a wheel surface monitor and used in correlation with transmitters (I,II) to control the axial movement of the dressing tool by an electromagnetic device. USE/ADVANTAGE - In high output and onerous grinding operations. Permits increased removal rates whilst maintaining accuracy. Promote reduced thermal loading at wormpiece surface. Dressing action can be limited to specific zones of circumference device easily fitted to existing machines and costs less than others.
