Summary:A process for differentiating defects in non-destructive ultrasonic pulse-echo testing of material in which the real components of signals received in given time ranges during testing are converted into a complex amplitude plane and the maximum amplitude Am and associated angle alpha are determined and are fixed in relation to the maximum amplitude and associated angle of a comparison object, the difference between the angles being a measurement of defects formed. The process is particularly useful for testing metallic material.
