Summary:A safety door locking device for washing machines and the like includes a pawl (13) which is activated by a bimetallic plate (16), itself heated by a PCT pellet (15) through which power to the appliance passes. When power is supplied, the pawl (13) engages an aperture (12) in the door lock mechanism, to lock the door. To prevent the door from unlocking when power is withdrawn, the pawl (13) is latched by a locking lever (37), the movement of which is controlled by the water level within the appliance.
