A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A HYDROGENRICH GAS

The prodn. of an H2-rich gas by reacting a CO-contg. gas with steam is carried out in the presence of a catalyst contg. sulphides of Ni and/or Co and Mo supported on an alumina having a SiO2 content of 1 wt.%, a sulphate content of 1 wt.%, a halogen content of 0.2 wt.%, a specific surface of >150...

Summary:The prodn. of an H2-rich gas by reacting a CO-contg. gas with steam is carried out in the presence of a catalyst contg. sulphides of Ni and/or Co and Mo supported on an alumina having a SiO2 content of 1 wt.%, a sulphate content of 1 wt.%, a halogen content of 0.2 wt.%, a specific surface of >150 m2/g, a pore vol. of >0.3 ml/g, an av. pore dia. (calcd. as 4 x 103 times the pore vol. divided by the specific surface) of >4.5 nm, and a prod. of specific surface and density of >125 m2/ml. A prefd. catalyst contains 3,5 pbw Ni, 8 pbw Mo and 100 pbw Al2O3. The catalysts are highly active and can be used for both low-temp. (200-275 degrees C) and high temp. (325-400 degrees C) water gas shift reactions.
