Summary:Prepn. of a polymer bound ligand useful as a metallocene catalyst component is claimed. The process comprises reacting a metallated polystyrene and an organo-halide cpd.. The polystyrene is metallated with an alkali metal. The organo-halide cpd. is of formula: XM(R)m X = a halide; M = Si, C, Ge, Sn, P or N; and each R = a hydrocarbyl gp. selected from (cyclo)alkyl, aryl and cyclopentadienyl-type gps. contg. 1-36 C atoms, with the proviso that: at least one R gp. = cyclopentadienyl-type gp., where the cyclopentadienyl-type gps. are cyclopentadienyl opt. substd., substd. indenyl, fluorenyl opt. substd., where the substits. include 1-12C hydrocarbyl gps., 1-12C alkoxy gps., or halide, and m is 2 or 3. Also claimed is the polymer bound ligand formed as above.
